WHAT WE DO

At The Muddy Pond, we are committed to empowering young people by providing the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to overcome the challenges posed by their environment, socioeconomic status, or personal struggles. We strive to enable these individuals to unlock their full potential, take charge of their futures, and achieve success and fulfilment, regardless of their obstacles. Our ultimate goal is to equip them with the power to shape their own destinies, ensuring that their circumstances do not dictate or limit their achievements in life.

LEGAL  ADVICE & ADVOCACY

At The Muddy Pond, we offer a personalised, one-to-one service for young people within the homeless sector in London. Our focus is on providing advocacy and legal advice to assist young people with housing issues. We help them understand their rights within the housing system and offer practical solutions to navigate the complexities they face, empowering them to secure stable housing and build a foundation for a brighter future.

DONATIONS

At The Muddy Pond, our commitment extends beyond the UK. We actively work in regions like Ethiopia and other parts of Africa where we strive to support those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through our efforts, we collect, produce, and purchase essential items such as clothing, sanitary underwear, and disability aids, along with educational and sports equipment. These resources are then distributed to communities in need across Ethiopia and other regions, helping to uplift individuals and provide them with the basic tools necessary for a dignified life and the opportunity to thrive.

TESTIMONIALS

"I cannot express enough gratitude for the service I received from Makeda at The Muddy Pond. Due to eviction, I was facing homelessness with my wife and two children, one of whom has severe autism. Makeda immediately took my case to heart and sprang into action. She liaised directly with the Barking and Dagenham borough to help us secure suitable accommodation.

Initially, there was a lot of pushback from the borough because my wife and child had no access to public funds, and they refused to house them despite my son’s condition. However, Makeda was relentless. She informed social services and the local authorities of their ability to make exceptions in such cases and reminded them of their legal duty to assist under existing legislation. Her deep knowledge of the system and unwavering determination made all the difference.

At one point, I was offered accommodation five hours away, as the borough argued that my income wasn't sufficient for a flat in London. I was ready to accept it out of desperation, but Makeda encouraged me to maintain hope and to press for suitable accommodation within the borough. Thanks to her persistence and advocacy, the authorities eventually complied, and my family was offered a lovely home within the borough.

Makeda’s dedication, expertise, and compassion helped my family during one of our most difficult times, and I will always be truly grateful for the incredible service I received from her and The Muddy Pond."
